Some background, I used to work at a small company and a good friend of mine (Rick Holcomb) would dress in a Hawaiian shirt every Friday. Rick said it was to say, “Aloha” to the week and “Aloha” to the weekend. I stated to as well and took the practice with me to my new job. People started to ask me the same question and joined me. So to get more people involved, I decided to create videos. These videos would kick off at the first day of Summer.
I’ve had these videos on my old webpage since 2005 (which was strictly HTML) and they were using an old video format, which was the standard format for web at the time. I’d been meaning to re-code the video pages but just hadn’t gotten around to it. Some people had been asking about these videos so the itch to fix had been there for a long time.
I finally engaged my Hermano/Code Master, Jim Cornell and after I converted the videos to a new movie format, he showed this old dog how to do some html coding and republish on my old pages. But then I heard the voice of my manager Jessie Hinojosa, “You’re over thinking this…” – I already have the new videos, so just make it a post. So I did.
Below are the videos I produced, first by myself then with my incredibly talented friend, Fernando Del Bosque.
I am incredibly blessed to have such talented friends to collaborate with me.
Please bear in mind these videos are lower resolution – I was still learning and even my video skills were basic, as was my filming techniques but you’ll see the progression of my craft.
This is the video that started it all in 2005. I filmed it by myself in my bedroom to the chagrin of my wife Elizabeth.
AND NO! Not that kind of video!
Then by popular demand, “Gilberto, when are you gonna do another video to kick off Hawaiian Shirt Fridays.” So below you will find the next one in 2006.
Every year, the same question, “When’s the next HSR video?” So this when Fernando and I came up with the idea that we could create a “Kick off” video for HSFs and then “an end to” HSFs, because even though we live in Texas, you shouldn’t be wearing Hawaiian shirts during winter. Below are the two videos for 2008.
2008 was the final year we decided to create the Kick off and End videos. We had gotten so much better at scripting and shooting the videos. Sad that it came to that but I feel we ending on a high note.
And there you have it, my Hawaiian Shirt Friday videos.
Thanks for watching.
