August 19, 2007 And so it begins... My son Joaquin decided he wanted to try out for the school football team this summer. He's going to be a sixth grader and tryouts were on Aug 8th. I got up and took him to the practice field by 7am! I met the coach and left my son there. I was worried he'd be disappointed because I figured alot of boys would be trying out for the team. I told him, "Good luck Mijo" and walked away. I noticed that he was one of the youngest boys there....oh boy. Joaquin's practice ended at 10am and Liz picked him up and brought him home where my Mom was staying with us during the two weeks while the kids were between Summer Camp and the beginning of school. I called around 2pm and spoke to Joaquin. He gleefully told me that he had made the team! "Are you sure Joaquin?" "Yes sir - they even gave me my helmet." Oh boy...he made the team. I'm so proud of him. LIke I said, he's one of the youngest boys on the team since now he'll be playing against 6th, 7th and 8th graders. LIz and I sure don't miss the early and late practices but it's part of the deal. So...I thought I would post his schedule on this page for his Rookie season - we went outside and took this picture of him (above) standing in our yard with his helmet. You can also download the schedule - click on this link to download a hard copy. **New schedule to reflect new game date and location for Sept 28th game!** I'm so excited about this since I was never "allowed" to play sports in school. I have not figured out if I'm going to video or photograph his games so I'll probably just update the Win Lose (W/L) column. But you never know so you might want to check back. GO BULLDOGS! Hello all,
I've started this web page for my son, Joaquin. He tried out and made it for his school football team. He began practices back on August 13, 2007 and he's made the team. That's him above too. He's not the smallest kid on the team but one of the shortest since as a new 6th grader he could try out for the team. Although now he gets to play against 6th, 7th and 8th graders!
This is all new to me since I never got to play sports in school but I'm very excited. I have not decided if I'm going to video tape or photograph his games but at least I've posted the schedule above. You can also download the schedule here and a PDF file will be displayed on your screen. If I do decide, I'll post them here with links to each game.
