As most of you know, I’ve been incredibly fascinated with miniaturization every since Jim gave me that TinyTV for my birthday. It brought back many memories for me and so it stirred up other ones as well.
Back in High School (80s) my buddy Rick Llanes had one of the most BAD ASS cars a kid could want. A 1968 Pontiac Firebird hot rod with such a unique color. Rick and I still keep in touch even though he lives in Chicago and me in San Antonio and I’d been thinking of Rick for a while. I had this idea and enlisted Rick to collaborate.
I ordered a 69 Hot Wheel that looked very close to what Rick had and we began the customization. Rick and I would discuss what I was trying to do and he sent me a picture and reference images – plus from both our memories – I came up with this custom Hot Wheel car.
The was not easy but but relying our memories and chatting with Rick made it easier. It was a my first time doing this so its not perfect.
But what in life is?
The journey is what matters and Rick and I continue our journey as close friends.
I documented my process and you can see it in the gallery below – click on the images for a larger view.
For Rick my buddy,
