Decided to finally post this! Lots of build photos.
As many of you know, I like working with craft (EVA) foam to build stuff. You might remember I built my daughter some Wonder Woman amour out of this stuff but decided to try and build something bigger using thicker stuff.

I wanted to build a gun for a Warhammer Space Marine. These are genetically enhanced soldiers much larger than Humans and I used to paint the miniatures (see here) so I thought I would try my skills on this. I bought some EVA foam square pads and began my build. My son helped me – he designed and I built it. Took me about 4 months (on an off) and I’m happy with how it came out. You can see the build gallery below (click on images for a larger view) with descriptions of what I did. I shot all of these with my iPhone so I apologize for the quality.

Stacked first layer of the EVA floor board foam mats to three layers.
Had to anchor them together so used some drywall screws.
Borrowed a friend's Scroll saw since using a box cutter wasn't gonna...well...cut it.
First real cut of the top portion of Bolter.
Next section required 4 layers of the floor mats!
Had my son help me with the design. He used one of his Nerf guns for size.
Back to the Scroll saw.
Layers complete, now to glue them together.
Shape coming along nicely.
Beveled some of the edges of the gun stock. Whittled it away with a knife and finished off with sandpaper.
Pretty big gun - but not even as big as it should be, but it'll work.
Made some custom PVC cutters using Dremel, punched out bolts.
Adding bolts to pistol.
More details - using some thinner craft foam to add buttons on side.
Thicker foam to add "feet" to bottom of Bolter grip.
Using the top of pen to add smaller "bolt" details.
Adding muzzles, a Spray can top and loose PVC cap.
Forgot to mention I added the magazine and details to the Bolter.
Details, details...
Now to apply first coat of Plasti Dip to primer the Bolter. If not - paint will peel off.
Shiny 1st coat.
Both sides.
After a quick blast of black spray paint, now to start painting with some silver.
Using a dry brush technique to lightly apply layers to the black to give it a metallic look.
Coming along.
Masking out areas to dry brush blue. Blue and white are the colors of the Ultra Space Marine Chapter for this Bolter.
More dry brushing. Brush away most of paint on paper towel, then lightly apply to areas.
Mixed some white to the blue paint to dry brush highlights.
Nice contrast.

Super glued thin strips of craft foam to simulate leather grip on Bolter stock.
Priming leather grip but using some cling wrap.

To finish and protect paint, sprayed it with a clear coat finish. The to weather it, I used some black watered down paint.
