BSS Highlight reels

My season is over.

by on Jun.23, 2014, under BSS Highlight reels, Creativity, Film making, Sports, Video

Most of you know that I’ve been filming the Blessed Sacrament Sports Banquet videos now for about 5 years.

Camera_FootballThis year was my last and I really enjoyed putting this one together. Each year I tried to “up my game” by moving from stills, to video, then adding slow motion and finally the “POV from Kids view.”

I pride myself in trying to get a different perspective when filming each sport.

You would rarely find me filming from the stands because I would go down onto the field/court/dugout with the Student Athletes and coaches.

“I wanted parents to see what the kids see.”

Camera_Softball

I’m going to miss doing this since my little girl is moving onto High school – I no longer need to film these wonderful kids.

I’m onto a new chapter of my hobby but in the meantime I wanted to share a short teaser video of the 42min 2014 Sports Banquet video I put together this year. I cut it down to 2mins and used some different music.

I leaned so much from filming “my kids” and I’ll miss presenting the videos to the super stars they truly are, on and off the field.

Thanks for letting me share,

Testing out the GoPro on some Volleyball players

by on Sep.25, 2013, under BSS Highlight reels, Creativity, Film making, Sports

003-G-Facing_CameraMost of you know that I’m a bit of a videographer.

This is “probably” my last year filming all of the sports for Blessed Sacrament Catholic School sports banquet since my daughter Emmy, will be graduating from 8th grade this year and going to high school.

“High school?! Really?!”

So I wanted to try something new. I got my trusty GoPro Hero 2 camera out and used the head mount to put it on the players while they were warming up. There is no way coaches or refs would let them wear it during game play but my job as a videographer is to get “a different perspective” when filming. So I’m trying this POV (Point of View). That’s my big ‘ol mug up there adjusting the camera while it’s on a player.

Pretty interesting. I posted some quick examples below.

Plus here are some pictures pulled from the video – click on the images for a larger view.

Just amazes me how these players have to deal with lights and stuff.

Anyways, just trying to “mix it up” for next year’s Blessed Sacrament Catholic School Sports Banquet.

Oh yeah…its not until May of 2014. Sigh.

Behind the camera this week which means…game high lights.

by on Oct.11, 2009, under Blessed Sacrament Catholic School Football, BSS Highlight reels, Sports

I was back behind the camera for my son’s football game this past Friday – last week I got to enjoy the game as a fan thanks to my friends. We had a decisive victory against the Mount Sacred Heart team. Look for my #79 at the bottom of the defensive pile at :40 seconds.

This time if felt more like football weather! It was overcast and cool. It only got up to about 65 degrees that day and it had rained a lot in the morning. I was wondering if there was going to be a lot of mud but not too much on field. The overcast sky messed with my white balance but I think I fixed it during the second half when it turned to night.

I’ve also decided to try a different video service – Vimeo.
I think it looks better. You tell me.

Blessed Sacrament Football VS Mount Sacred Heart from G-Man on Vimeo.

Next week will be a tough game – Holy Spirt. Then St Mary’s from Fredericksburg the following Thursday night.

Thanks for watching and visiting.

The fans are asking…

by on Sep.21, 2009, under Blessed Sacrament Catholic School Football, BSS Highlight reels, Sports

…for another highlight reel.

I didn’t do one from our victory on Monday Sept 14th game and I wasn’t planning on doing one for this past Friday’s victory either…but I’m getting grief, as is my son. So I caved and put together a slightly longer reel from this past Friday.

I filmed from the stands this time with a tripod for a fan’s perspective. I hope to appease the fans with a little old school music and was experimenting with timing to the music. That’s tough, timing action to beats of music…but I’m pleased. See the clip below.

Oh…my boy at 1:28 seconds…I almost missed it. I was trying to just get a nice shot of the defensive line penetrating and I got lucky. Also, look for some cool head butts in the background at 2:47, made me laugh.

A video used to be embedded here but the service that it was hosted on has shut down.

Thanks,

Beto

Bulldogs 0 – Cardinals 8

by on Sep.06, 2009, under Blessed Sacrament Catholic School Football, BSS Highlight reels, Sports

It was a defensive battle this past Friday against the Blessed Sacrament Bulldogs and the St Matthews Cardinals. Click below to see this past Friday’s game highlights.

My boy is at 1:23 seconds – watch #79 come in to the picture and pull the pile back…on himself.

It was a tough game against the St. Matthew’s Cardinals. Both teams were evenly matched but the Cardinals beat us by one touchdown.

Defense was the key. We were mere inches from a touchdown from a long pass to Chris (#5) who dragged three defenders within inches of the endzone – the Bulldogs didn’t score. The only touchdown was from the Cardinals scored from short yardage. So it was a game of inches.

I was out on the field videotaping the game and I told myself that I wouldn’t be putting up highlights of each game – but I got some good shots of our boys putt’n licks on the other team and some good running/catching.

GO BULLDOGS GO!
