Follow Focus Gear Hack – DIY

by on Jul.09, 2016, under Creativity, DIY, Movies, Sony A6000

So I’ve been figuring out how to make a smaller video rig for my Sony A6000. I had a much larger one but thought a smaller one with most of the same attachments would work better. Here is the bigger one.

I attached a follow focus but the rubber bracelet was too big – how would I make it smaller.

A simple DIY hack. See video blow.

Scary Hands Poster

by on Oct.30, 2015, under Creativity, Movies, Photography

Scary_hands_g-sigWhile shooting my friend Morgan for her Harley Quinn costume, I also wanted to try shooting a composite. Basically taking lots of photos and then putting them together in Photoshop. Kinda like our past LEVITATION and VAMPIRE shoots.

I wanted to try this “Hands reaching from the Dark” type of image and used a snoot on my strobes. This basically shoots a small concentrated beam of light to one part of your subject. So I positioned Morgan and began shooting her in various “fright” positions. Then I got involved and shot parts of my hands as well.

It was a funny shoot because we were laughing so much and for awhile we couldn’t be serious because of how stupid we looked trying to look scared. But in the end, I got the shots I wanted and then did my composite. Use the sliders on the image to see the before and after. I tried to get as much as I could “right” in the camera to minimize a lot of Photoshop work.

Here is another photos with more of the hand images and some more of Morgan’s expressions. You can click on it for a larger view.

Thanks for letting me share.

PS – me trying to show Morgan how to look scared. LOL.

I RUN – a film project

by on Oct.27, 2015, under Creativity, Film making, Movies, Sony A6000, Video

With the help of my buddy John, we began a film project a while back. Using all my tricks in my bag and some of his – we finally completed the film project of him running.

I’ve always been impressed with runners, how some just “lope” like deer when running. I remember when John started running about 4 years ago and I was so impressed with how he trained. Then he ran a marathon and another. I remember following his progress. So I thought,

“I’m gonna show him running…”

My goal was to produce a “Nike-ish Under Armor” kinda ad.

This was a collaborative effort between him and I along with the support of my other family and friends.

  • John Espinosa, you filmed yourself running countless times and never argued when I asked you to “run again…but slower.”
  • Michael Martinez who ran behind him holding my camera on a 3 axis stabilizer.
  • Joaquin (my son) piloting the drone to get those awesome over head shots.
I even flew it and got a shot I imagined!
  • And to Angel and Mike who drove the truck while I hung out of the back filming John.

I’m glad I got this done. I really had fun and happy with the final product.
