Jim Cornell, Hero for Hire

by on May.18, 2013, under Creativity, Family, Movie/TV Posters, Photography

Getting around to posting some other stuff I’d done a awhile back.

My buddy Jim and I share the same birthday…so I wanted to give him something special.

You see, Jim is somewhat of a celebrity hero in my eyes. Besides being a Super duper guy, a Macintosh user, a crack shot, he is also a Computer Forensics Examiner – think CSI. He got me started on the Macintosh platform and when I started to work at my new company (oh about 15 yrs ago) he helped me “ease back into” the PC world.

It was tough but I did it.

A while back (2 years ago) he and his wife Tammy invited me to go with them to visit their un-developed property up in Corsicana TX. I took my Nikon D7000 and snapped a lot of pictures but one stuck out. I decided to save it and use it someday.

Well that day came on his birthday of this year.

I have always thought that what he does is just so cool and since it relates to “cyber-stuff” I thought I would present his craft in a different light. So I created a poster for him in the theme of a motivational poster.

I took this photo (on the left) and created the poster above. I presented it to him as a birthday gift in the hopes I could try and match some of the previous gifts he had given me.

And trust me…he’s still got me working to beat his gifts.

But…he was quite excited to receive the 16 x 10 B/W metallic print. And as we got to talking, he said it could be used on a business card or even a book cover?

Well, you know I just couldn’t let those ideas go…so I did some mock ups of those as well.  See them below.

I really enjoyed putting this stuff together and I’m glad he loved them.

Now onto the next project…

The Host – Emma

by on Mar.24, 2013, under Creativity, Family, Movie Reviews, Movie/TV Posters, Movies

The things I do for my kids…

Emmy has been infatuated with a movie coming out later this month, its called, “The Host.” You can view trailer by clicking this link.

While they were shopping last Thursday 3.21.13, she spotted the book and asked if she could get it to read – my wife obliged.

We’re big supporters of reading…

She got the book 4 days ago and I told her if she finished it before the movie came out, I’d take some pictures of her and give her the “Host Eyes.”

It’s Sunday – 4 days later and she’s about to finish the book!

So – a man of my word, I took some pictures of her using my Nikon D7000 and then began using my Photoshop skills. Below is what I came up with for “her look.” It helps that Emmy has light colored eyes.

I had to recreate the logo and it’s not a perfect match but I’m happy and most importantly, Emmy loves them. I’ll have to add this to my list of other Saldivar movie posters I’ve created – Skyfall, Prometheus, Avengers and Star Trek.

And here were my reference materials.

Thanks for letting me share.

Loved Skyfall…

by on Nov.24, 2012, under Creativity, Movie Reviews, Movie/TV Posters

“Shaken…not stirred.”

Last night Elizabeth and I went for our “date night” and saw Skyfall at the Alamo Drafthouse.

What a great movie.

So in my tradition of my movie reviews, I found one of the only pictures of me in a tuxedo – my wedding day picture and created a movie poster.

I had to get rid of the boutonniere, cut me out of the background and clean it up, really fast. And because I liked the movie – I kept the smirk on my face. Of course now everyone is gonna freak out because I don’t have my goatee. Leave your comments below.

I sure did love the movie. I think Daniel Craig is fantastic as Bond, James Bond. He just looks like everything he does…is planned. The movie plot was pretty good and of course I loved the intro song by Adele.

I reccomend everyong go see it and go see it at the Alamo Drafthouse. A half hour before the previews, they had numerous clips from old spy movies and even had one of my all time favorites, Lynda Carter as WonderWoman fighting another woman.

Pause..to collect myself.

Then they showed a cartoon I never ever remember…James Bond Jr. Pretty cool.

Plus they had some “Bond” commercial that were excellent.

Bond Bread

James Bond Bad Guy ODD JOB in Vick’s 44 commercial:

I sure would love to have that job – finding all those clips.

So go out and see Skyfall – it is well worth it.

PS – below is the movie poster I tried to replicate early Saturday morning.

My Trailer for “Dear Agony”

by on Jul.31, 2012, under Creativity, Dear Agony 2012, Film making, Movie/TV Posters

I was having second thoughts about this but I’ve decided to post some information about “my project.”

Recently (about 2-3 months ago) I got inspired to create again. This time in the form of a film. I was thinking about how there isn’t much original stuff being produced in Hollywood (other than Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter – still haven’t seen it) and then I thought,

I should try to make something original…

So I began to conceptualize and typed up a short story one afternoon that I was quite pleased (and eager) to share with my family and friends. Actually my son Joaquin, was the first one to read it and I got a “Wow…that’s good.” High praise coming from a 16 year old…

I”ll take it.

So I started to develop the characters and details in a screen writing application (thank you Fernando) and I was getting more and more excited. Soon I was showing it to a tight knit group of friends (in the hopes they would want to be involved) and it worked.

Prometheus – Not Bad.

by on Jun.22, 2012, under Creativity, Humor, Movie Reviews, Movie/TV Posters, Movies

Elizabeth and I went to go see Prometheus this past Thursday night. We decided to head on over to the Alamo Drafthouse since “My favorite Sister-in-Law” Julie, would pick up Emmy from Summer Camp and Joaquin will be at his Boy Scout summer camp till this Saturday.

“Need to take advantage of this!” Elizabeth said.

Don’t have to tell me twice.

I really wanted to see this movie since I’m a “die hard” Alien fanboy. Didn’t really like any after ALIENS but since I’m a fan, I have to watch them.

What was cool was even a half hour before the movie started, they were showing all of these cheesy SciFi movie trailers. Like Mutant, Planet of the Vampires and I come in Peace. Plus some other movies I can’t remember other than saying, “You idiot, don’t shake that space canister!” Way cool to see these plus, they showed “Aliens on Ice, Live Theatrical Ice Skating version of the movie Aliens. It was a hoot to watch. See link below the movie posters.

Here is the link to the Aliens on Ice – funny to watch.

Speaking of movie posters – I got inspired and created my own version of G-man Prometheus movie poster – did it quickly but happy with the results. You know like the AVENGERS one? You can see the reference poster below.

The movie was not bad. And we took a chance and saw it in Dolby Digital 3D. Wow – it sure was used right in this movie. The use for the on-board computer interfaces the actors were using was phenomenal. Better than AVATAR in my opinion. Plus the new Dolby 3D glasses – they were pretty nice, except they felt like they were dirty, we couldn’t get the film off of them.

Did it answer my questions since it was a prequel to Alien?

No,

It actually created more but I am glad I saw it. I’ll pick it up when it comes out in Blu ray.

All in all, it was a great “date night.”
