Fest of Tails 3-17-18

by on Mar.18, 2018, under Creativity, Film making, Photography, Sony A6000

Had a great time at the Fest of Tails (Dogs and Kites) festival this past Saturday with Elizabeth and Emma. I took my Sony A6500, mounted to my Zhiyun crane on the cloudy day. Emma took some great photos.

I wanted to film it from a “Dog’s view” so I positioned my camera angle low. Was guessing most of the time on the shots since I couldn’t see the monitor. See picture below.

I’ll post more pictures later when Emma gives them to me.

Forest Photoshoot and Video March 2018

by on Mar.05, 2018, under Creativity, Film making, Movies, Photography, Sony A6000

Did a photo shoot this past weekend with my friend Charito. Bummer was that it started to drizzle right before our shoot but Charito and I had this planned for a while so we decided to push forward.

Glad I did – we got some great unexpected results.

And I’m lucky to have my Familia Crew out there with me – Mike is family too. They were a big help from hauling gear, moving lights, holding umbrellas and taking behind the scenes (BTS) photos as well. And Charito (model) was a trooper as well.

Below you will find a Before and After photo, A photo Gallery and video too!

It was cloudy and drizzly but with my gear I was able to darken the background and then augment the light with some flashes. You can see how we backlit the drizzle in the photos – that was so unexpected but awesome. You can use the sliders to see the Before and After.

BTS gallery below – click on images for a larger view.

And of course we shot some video too. Joaquin used my Sony A6500 and I added some cinematic color grading, letterbox bars and some music.

Thanks for letting me share.

Emmy’s stop motion project and documentary

by on Feb.17, 2018, under Creativity, Family, Film making, Sony A6000

I wanted to share with everyone a couple of projects my Emmy has been working on. She did her first stop motion project using my newly DIY’d table top with lights and overhead camera set up. I used microphone boom arms to suspend the LED light panels and camera.

Below you can see the video she produced – to which Elizabeth and I are very proud. At the end of the video(s) you can see how she created it – I’ve posted a gallery of photos.

She also produced a Documentary for a blood drive at Antonian and integrated the sad passing of a former student. Again, Elizabeth and I are very proud.

Below is a gallery of how she created the stop motion shots. Click on the images for a larger view.

Drone Wars June 2017

by on Oct.25, 2017, under Creativity, Film making, Sony A6000, Video

Forgot I had shot and edited this video.

My buddies and I, (John/DJI Phantom 3, Rick/DJI Mavi Pro and Morgan/cool iPhone) decided to go out to the park and test their flying skills. Wanted to see if they could film each other.

Was kinda tough since the cameras on these quadcopters are more for landscape shots than closeups. But they tested their nerves trying to fly close.

We got some great footage which I then used iMovie’s fantastic trailer feature. I then exported the event to Final Cut Pro and tweaked it. Kenny provided the voice over.

I like it.
