Saldivar South Padre Vacation 2017

by on Jun.18, 2017, under Family, Film making, Photography, Sony A6000

Been one week since we’ve been back from our annual Saldivar Vacation. This year (2017) we decided to go back to South Padre Island and “complete” the vacation. See 8 years ago we went but Joaquin got really sick and we basically drove back. This trip felt like we closed the loop.

Read about that here – Joaquin got sick

The video above is from Day 1 and I didn’t bust out my cameras the rest of the trip. Elizabeth told me not to make it “work.” So I didn’t. I did add a gallery below so if you click on images for a larger view. I did create some time lapses using my Sony A6500 and I’ll add those later.

DIY GoPro Battery Powered Tripod April 2017

Just a quick post to show the “rig” I put together for my daughter that wanted to use my GoPro for some Selfie stuff and time-lapse. She needed to be able to see herself using her iPhone and the GoPro app plus some extra juice to power the GoPro past 2 hours.

So using existing GoPro gear I had PLUS a small power bank, I created something in about 30mins – see below. Should be easy for her to place on any table and just run it.

Sony A6500 noisy camera clip hack

Ever since I’ve been filming with my Sony AK series, I always get this annoying rattling from the metal camera clips that are attached to the camera. These help you keep straps on the camera but when you take the camera strap off – they rattle and the onboard microphone picks up the sound.

I didn’t want to remove them since I only remove the strap when film by hand or on my motorized 3 axis gimbal. I had asked some photo groups I’m part of but they just said to “cut them off.”

“Nope.”

I found this video online and it was BRILLIANT – link below.

So basically  all you need are the “cups” of in ear headphones – who doesn’t have a spare set for smaller or larger ears? For the Sony, you just remove the plastic black part from the triangular clip and slide those bad boys on. The clips are at “attention” but don’t rattle. And you can still use my new clip system. See the pics below. Click on them for a larger view.

Love it.

PS – here is the Youtube  link below. He gets all the credit.

Youtube video for this awesome idea
